Does this sound familiar?
“In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will automatically descend from the ceiling. Grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a child traveling with you, secure your own mask before assisting the child.”
If you want to save your child, you need to be alive and capable to do so.
What applies for your family’s travel plans applies in your family’s spiritual life as well. If you want to help you children, you yourselves need to be spiritually alive and capable of teaching them God’s life-giving Word. That Word is the only thing that will save them from certain death. That’s why every Sunday we have both the Divine Service and a time for Christian Catechesis (Bible Study and Sunday School): these give you the life and capability you need to help your children.
Before sending just your child to Sunday School and leaving, or skipping out with your family entirely, consider this: secure your own faith before assisting the child. Fulfill your God-given vocation as father or mother and receive all the blessings that come with it.
Christian Catechesis--both Sunday School and Bible Study--begins on Sunday at 9:30am. Learn the Word with kids and adults of all ages. Secure your own mask and help your child with theirs.
The Divine Service begins at 10:30am. Breathe deeply of the Holy Spirit and live.
If you need help coming to Divine Service and Christian Catechesis, want to learn about home catechesis and family devotions, or want to learn more about the Bible and Christian teachings, talk to the pastor. He'd be overjoyed to teach, train, and equip you for a lifetime of growing in the faith.
